Our lighting is truly one of our passion-projects. There is a magical quality to lighting from bygone eras—a combination of artisan craftsmanship, solid brass construction, and the soft patina of time that modern, mass-produced fixtures simply cannot replicate. Antique and vintage lighting does more than illuminate a room; it brings a tangible piece of history, character, and soul into modern living spaces. By reviving these forgotten treasures, we bridge the gap between the charm of the past and the functional demands of the present, ensuring that unique, soulful design continues to shine.
Refurbishment and Restoration Process
Our shop decides between refurbishing and restoring lighting pieces by first evaluating its historical value, overall condition, and your functional goals. We choose restoration for antiques or sentimental pieces to carefully preserve the original materials and historical patina. Alternatively, we opt to refurbish heavily damaged or standard fixtures by updating them with modern, safe electrical components while modifying their aesthetic for everyday use.
Restoration: The goal is conservation. If the lighting piece is a valuable antique, we keep or lightly repair original finishes and wiring to maintain its historical integrity and collector's value.
Refurbishment: The goal is functional longevity. If a lamp is structurally damaged or unsafe, we may completely replace the cord, socket, or switch while altering the cosmetic finish so it reliably serves as a modern lighting fixture.
1. Electrical Rewiring & Safety (The Core)
Safety is our top priority. To ensure your lamp is safe for daily use, we completely overhaul the internal wiring.
- New Components: We install brand-new, UL-listed sockets, switches, and premium wiring.
- Upgraded Plugs: Old, brittle plugs are replaced with new polarized or grounded safety plugs.
- Socket Check: Every socket interior is inspected or replaced to prevent short-circuiting.
2. Structural Stability & Cleaning
Vintage and second-hand lamps often suffer from wear and tear. We restore the lamp’s physical integrity.
- Deep Clean: All metal, glass, or wooden components are carefully disassembled and cleaned using specialized, non-damaging products.
- Hardware Tightening: We tighten all loose joints, finials, and bases to ensure the lamp stands perfectly straight and sturdy.
- Hardware Restoration: Tarnish on brass or copper is either gently polished or treated to preserve a desirable vintage patina.
3. Aesthetic Refinishing
We breathe new life into the exterior while respecting the lamp’s original character.
- Painting/Sealing: Any repainting or touch-ups are done using high-quality primers and finishes.
- Glass Shade Upgrades: We either restore the original glass shade (if in pristine condition) or pair it with a brand-new, high-quality glass shade that complements its style.
4. Final Inspection & Testing
Before any lamp leaves our workshop, it must pass a strict multi-point quality control check.
- Continuity Test: We test the wiring for electrical continuity and safety.
- Bulb Check: We test the socket with the maximum recommended wattage bulb to ensure there is no overheating.
